Reduces risk of ‘dooring’ compared to conventional bike lanes
Dedicates and protects space for bicyclists in order to improve perceived comfort and safety
Eliminates risk and fear of collisions with over-taking vehicles
May help prevent double parking, unlike a bike lane
Have been found to be more attractive for bicyclists of all levels and ages

For Bicyclists:
Obey all traffic laws – stop for red lights and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks
Use extra care when riding through intersections and mixing zones
For Motorists:
Unless otherwise signed, all parking rules remain in effect, including parking meter fees and resident permit parking
Do not park on the buffer zone
Use care when exiting vehicles and crossing the bike lane to the sidewalk
How to safely navigate in a parking protected bicycle lane
Over the last few years the TMA has really stepped things up: advocating and following through on improved bike infrastructure (most notably protected bike lanes throughout the Seaport); ...free bike lights and other safety gear; and the weekly bike tune ups by Landry’s professional mechanics to keep everyone’s bikes running smoothly. These programs have gone a long way to get more people out of their cars and onto bikes!
